Klout Ranks the Time 100: Guess Who’s #1 using Social Media?

Klout-logo.jpeg

President Obama may be enormously influential in the real world, but when it comes to online influence, he’s got nothing on Justin Bieber — at least according to Klout

The social analytics measurement tool published the various Klout scores of the 2012 Time 100 — Time magazine’s list of the most influential people of the year.

A shift in what drives influence greatly impacted the movers-and-shakers who landed on this year’s list. Justin Bieber is the only person with a perfect 100 Klout score, perhaps thanks to his “beliebers.” Bieber made last year’s Time 100. Other high scorers are Rihanna (95), Lady Gaga (94) and Barack Obama (92) — all on this year’s list. Mashable’s own Pete Cashmore ranks high, too, with a Klout score of 89.

More than half (53%) of the Time 100 had Klout...  Read More

Pinterest is Now the No. 3 Social Network in the U.S. [STUDY]

Pinterest is now the number three most-popular social network in the U.S., behind Facebook and Twitter, according to Experian Hitwise.

****Addoway was the first online marketplace to use the pinterest plugin... before ebay, bonanza, and amazon****

A new report from the researcher shows Pinterest got 21.5 million visits during the week ending Jan. 28, a nearly 30-fold increase over a comparable week in July. Not surprisingly, the site skews female with a 60/40 ration of women to men visitors.

Experian rep Matt Tatham says Pinterest beat its next-closest competitor, LinkedIn, in total visits in February. Tatham says the rankings by total visits for March is as follows:

  • 1. Facebook: 7 billion
  • 2. Twitter: 182 million
  • 3. Pinterest: 104 million
  • 4. LinkedIn: 86 million

Skype Slams Facebook and Twitter in New Ads stating the social networking sites are “degrading humanity”

Technology is changing the way people think and operate, but is it also degrading humanity?

That’s the premise behind Skype’s new $12 million marketing campaign, which slams both Facebook and Twitter as it promotes its own more-intimate form of keeping in touch.

The campaign, “It’s time for Skype,” makes virtual enemies out of Facebook and Twitter with targeted ads that suggest the social networking sites are “degrading humanity.” If Twitter is known for its 140-character limit and Facebook for its wall posts, Skype’s authority is that its video conferencing — and the real emotions that it can express — bring people back to a (more) real world.

How Iceland Is Rebuilding Its Economy from Debt With Social Media

In 2008 Iceland suffered a severe economic meltdown and became bankrupt, it opted not to take loans to bail out the corporations that caused the debt crisis and with cooperation of the people and social media they are back on top..........

REYKJAVIK, Iceland — While visiting Iceland for an online marketing conference last week, I found myself in the president of Iceland’s living room, scratching my head at how welcoming and eager he was to talk about the country’s use of social media and technology to rebuild the nation.

Is Pinterest the New Facebook?

What is your opinion? Is Pinterest the New Facebook?

Pinterest, a new photo-based
social media platform, is rocketing to the upper echelons of Internet visitation at an astounding rate, but The New York Post might have oversold the site when it dubbed it "the new Facebook." Sure, it's become the fifth-largest social media network and 16th most-visited site in the U.S. in just two years, but its 11.7 million users (as of January) are still dwarfed in comparison to Facebook's 845 million users (as of December). So why the high praise?

Gizmodo's Sam Biddle compares it to a dreamland, a form of escapism that appeals to our most visual appetites. He writes, "It's a group fantasy where everyone is feeding each other very pretty things. People are posting shoes they can’t afford to buy, recipes they can’t cook. It does feel very...
