(All) Indns Drink (Alcohol) OR Who Are All Those People in Beer Commercials? Not us Indns!

Last evening, I stopped at a building supply to check out the cost of some tools I've been thinking of buying.  On the way out, I bought a bottle of "Ravin Red" soda.  It's cranberry & cherry flavored.  it comes in a brown bottle.

A few miles away there is a Wal-Mart with a Subway.  Chakli (dog) & I stopped to get a sandwich for dinner.  Before I left the pickup, I finished off the soda because otherwise it would be warm when I got back.  I put the cap on the bottle & put the empty in the back of the pickup.

As I approached the pickup after getting the sandwich, I saw a Bismarck PD squad sitting behind it.  My first thought was, "Crap! Another stupid call about a dog in the pickup."  Then I thought, "Nah.. it's only 73F."  Then I thought, I have a big bundle of dill...  Read More

Dis-Abled? What's That?

I watched the Olympics over the past weekend, like billions of other people & I was lucky enough to see Oscar Pistorius run in the 400m races.  I salute him, as do millions (billions?) of other people, but I do it from a viewpoint few others have.  I still have my feet, but I came within a hair's breadth of losing my feet when I was in high school.

  Eventually,...  Read More

About Bullying

There was a piece on National Public Radio about bullying & its effects on the bullied.  I can't help but wonder - have the subjects of bullying changed since I was a kid?

Given the huge problem with obesity & sedentary-ness in young people today, do obese kids still get called ugly things?  When I was a kid, they did.

Are kids with thick eyeglass lenses still called "4 Eyes"?

What are the subjects of bullying today and have they changed since I was a kid (at which time, guys were running around in iron suits, rescuing damsels).

Anybody out there remember the song "Harper Valley PTA"?  Are kids heckled because their mothers are bed-hoppers?  They were when I was a kid.

And then there's - is there as much bullying today as there was "in the old days" - or are people just wussier now, so they wail about it more?  It seems...  Read More
