The American Colony Hotel offers a Friday night Arabic feas

The American Colony Hotel

tourist in Jerusalem, but it is a rare thing to feel completely transported to another time and place. The American Colony Hotel, the former residence of a 19th-century Ottoman pasha, is a Jerusalem institution for precisely that reason. Romancing the visitor with the building’s Arabic arches, oasis-like dining area and its rich history, this getaway is deeply embedded in the Jerusalem story.

Every Friday evening during the summer months, the staff of the hotel invites Jerusalemites, as well as tourists, to enjoy their Arabian nights, a celebration of Arabic dishes – accompanied by an oud player – in the hotel’s iconic setting.

Hotel manager Thomas Brugnatelli says that if you want to eat good local Arabic food, the American Colony Hotel is the destination.

Barack Obama goes on 'rant' against Trump-style 'populism'

U.S. President Barack Obama ended the Three Amigos news conference by addressing the Trump in the room.

Just after he wound up his answer to the last question of the day, Obama launched into a "rant" against the kind of controversial rhetoric associated with Donald Trump's Republican primary campaign.

"If you'll allow me, I want to say one last thing because it has been a running thread in a bunch questions … this whole issue of populism," Obama said.

The president then suggested someone take a minute to look up the meaning of the term populism — to represent the interests of the common people — that is often used to describe Trump's campaign style.

Arsenal soccer brings style to Glendale

Arsenal Summer Campa

ENDALE - Though the range of knowledge and skill was diverse among participants at the Summerfuel soccer camp at the Glendale Sports Complex, one thing guaranteed to coaches and players was plenty of interaction.

Summerfuel, English-based Arsenal Football Club’s United States affiliate, held the second of its California camps at the Glendale Sports Complex from June 20-24 with about 26 participants taking advantage of a unique style of training and coaching.

“What we want is for the kids to have fun and to develop, but also to learn the Arsenal way,” said Marc Anthony, the camp director. “It’s more than just skills, but also about attitude. With the numbers we have, we’re able to really get involved with all the kids.”

Erin Stewart: 5 tips for moms to survive and enjoy summer

I always start the summer with lofty goals. We make a summer bucket list with all the fun activities we are going to do before September rolls in. I buy bubbles by the trunkload and fantasize about the glory of days without strict schedules and time to just enjoy my children.

Roughly 20 days in, however, my idyllic summer fantasy has devolved into my kids watching TV just so I can get a few minutes of head space that isn’t filled with complaints of boredom and squabbles over ridiculous minutiae like who sprayed whom first with the garden hose.

So, yes, summer is definitely a double-edged sword. I love it because of the freedom and time with my kids, but those are also the reasons why summer can be a challenge for moms.

AR-style rifle owners defend their weapon of choice

Nightclub Shooting Defending the Rifle

Atlanta — Karen Butler remembers being scared the first time she picked up an AR-15-style rifle a decade ago.

But as soon as she fired it, she became a fan.

“You know some of these people that are fearful, it’s just because they don’t have knowledge,” she said. “We call it furniture — it’s got all the accessories on it that make it look a little intimidating. But once you shoot it you realize it’s so much fun.”

Butler, of Huntsville, Alabama, started Shoot Like a Girl, an outfit that seeks to introduce and inspire women to participate in shooting sports.

More than 12,000 people were killed last year in the United States by guns, and most of those incidents involved handguns.

Mother who ran London Marathon dressed as a witch didn't break world record because her dress was too short

Nicola Nuttall dressed as a witch for the London Marathon

woman who thought she had broken a world record after running the London Marathon dressed as a witch was told she would not receive the award because her dress was too short.

Nicola Nuttall completed the 26.2-mile route in April in 3hrs 31mins while wearing a full-length witch's dress and hat, and carrying a broom.

But despite the Trawden Athletic Club runner beating the old time by 29 minutes, the record has not been recognised by adjudicators.

I feel like I've let everybody down. I feel like a failure

Nicola NuttallA spokesman for the Guinness World Records said Miss Nuttall, from Pendle, Lancashire, was not awarded the record because she ran in an altered and "substantially shorter dress" than the one they approved.

Five trends to watch as the EU referendum results come in

he truth is that nobody knows what will happen in the EU referendum tonight. Neither the commentators, nor the campaigners, nor the pollsters can tell how it might go. There’s a general consensus that it’s close, but that itself is based on polling which is still taking tentative steps towards recovering its credibility after last year, and trying to tackle an issue which seemingly cuts across all sorts of normal party political indicators.

At the weekend, I wrote a brief guide to how the results will be announced. Now it’s time to look at some of the trends that are worth watching as the night wears on:

  1) Turnout

Donald Trump Calls for Israeli-Style Racial Profiling — But Profiling Is a Disaster

DONALD TRUMP TOLD CBS News over the weekend that the United States should consider religious and ethnic profiling to prevent terror attacks.

“I think profiling is something that we’re going to have to start thinking about as a country,” Trump said. “Other countries do it, you look at Israel and you look at others, they do it and they do it successfully. And I hate the concept of profiling, but we have to start using common sense and we have to use our heads.”

Israel’s most systematic use of racial profiling occurs at its borders and has been rife with abuses that stand in contrast with American values of equal treatment and safeguarding personal liberties.
