Did you know that composting is beneficial to your garden? Well it is, plain and simple. Not only does it provide minerals, and nutirents that are necesary for plant growth, but it also provides a nice place to get an early spring surprise...like potatoes that come up before anything else.
I put potato eyes, peels, and whole potatoes that seemed to be too soft for any type of cooking, right into the compost all winter long. I got a nice surprise by having a compost full of fresh potato plants that are growing so nicely. Even with the cold weather and frosts that have been occurring lately, they are still doing wonderfully.
Use common sense when composting. Only put those things that are beneficial to your pile, like veggie and fruit peels, coffee grounds, tea bags, and by all means..do not add any type of grease or cooked foods.
