Bright knee-length frocks in block colours are tipped to take Prom Dresses position in the fashion stakes this Spring Racing Carnival. Last year, racegoers splashed out on more than 320,000 fashion items, including 54,694 hats and fascinators, 51,969 pairs of shoes and 46,357 dresses. Fashion spending totalled more than $40 million. Danny O'Brien, the trainer of Caulfield Cup favourite Vigor, was on hand to help launch the carnival in Melbourne on Wednesday, as well as Prom Dresses on Sale Kavanagh, who trains Cox Plate favourite Whobegotyou, and jockey Michael Rodd, who rode Maldivian to victory in last year's Cox Plate.
The carnival gets underway on Wednesday at Moonee Valley, Long Prom Dresses by the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes at Flemington on Saturday. The Melbourne Cup, the carnival's showcase race, is in its 149th year. In the fashion stakes, Melbourne milliner, Melissa Jackson, who created pieces for Rebecca Twigley and Jennifer Hawkins Discount Pageant Dresses year, hopes there will be a greater focus on hats rather than fascinators in 2009. "The hat really finishes off the outfit better and tends to look a little bit more sophisticated as well," she told AAP.
"I think for so many years racing fashion has become quite nightclub-ish, Discount Plus Size Dresses lots of strapless dresses and shoe-string straps. "I think a great dress with a great hat looks much more polished." And blokes, apparently a hat is often a winner with the ladies.
