We initially began discussing what we called "HI" or "Human Interaction" when we first launched Addoway back in April of 2010. It was an easy way for us to define the return on investment of your time spent in the social sphere. We built Addoway on the notion that people want to buy from people they could trust and the easiest way to show you how you could trust someone is to show you their “social activity” online. Show you where they are, what they are doing, and how active they are online. Hence one of the reasons we introduced Klout scoring into the equation. People love talking with each other, so you could use this to your advantage.
Just to bring you back up to speed, Human Interaction or what we call “HI” is the act of communicating openly to another individual. It can be online or offline, but the key is that it has a ROI on your business; you just need to know what you are looking for okay? Asking a question on a fan page or through your Twitter account or even on Google Plus and getting responses is interaction that you can’t get anywhere else. Get your users to talk and in time you will build value and sales will follow. Don’t get caught up in trying to quantify “HI’s” value right now. There is ROI in the interaction and you can maximize this return as you stay connected. When you get people to speak or tweet you, you are moving the needle in the right direction. Ask them what they need. Trust it! Just say HI!
So how do you start just saying HI?
We have grown Addoway to the thousands of users we are at today 100% through Human Interaction; just by saying HI to sellers. We have grown it all through Word of Mouth that has continued to spread because of users like you who believe in what we are doing and want to be a part of it. Did you know you can do the same thing with your business? You can take your business to new levels without any cost to you. All you need is time, faith that it works, and some tips along the way. It really is not difficult at all. We get support tickets all of the time from sellers asking us how they can sell more on Addoway. Well truth behold, it is the same skills you needed anywhere else you chose to sell. You just need to spend the time interacting with others and making friends. But just remember, you are not going to make friends by spamming.
Sellers all too often only tweet about their auctions or items for sale, but forget to talk about themselves along with it. You can’t go all in one direction and not have any balance. It is important to understand why Twitter is important to you and your business. People buy from people, so don’t get too automated in your tweets and forget to respond personally. If you ask a question to the Addoway team on Twitter or Facebook you get a real response and you get one rather quickly right? You need to be on top of your game my friends. Addoway doesn’t have this incredible team of social media interns just waiting for you to ask us something. It really is just a one person show on the social media front and if it can be done from this angle, it can be done from yours too.
Everyone should have a Facebook business page or even group. If you create a group page make sure it’s centered on a theme, so if you sell handmade crafts you should focus the page around handmade crafts and grow a user base around passionate handmade craft lovers. At Addoway we have pages specifically focused around Marilyn Monroe, Elvis, Star Trek, and The Beatles for example. Having one focused just around collectibles and including everything collectible in it won’t do the trick. Make it as specific as possible. Use this page to generate awareness to not just your products, but information about the niche and encourage new members to share their thoughts and products too.
And we have talked about this before, but blogging is such an important tool to build credibility and we repeat ourselves over and over, because we know it works. Did you know we have thousands and thousands of blog posts from sellers just like you on Addoway now? It is true! Every Wednesday sellers come together for AddoBlog Day and post whatever is on their mind, which often includes passions; life’s challenges etc. Try it sometime and watch those views to your store increase tenfold. Shares those posts with your true friends and your online friends who will one day possibly become true friends too. Remember friendships form from common bonds between people. Your blog posts help bring you together.
At the end of the day, the key to successful online selling is to ensure you are open to interacting with sellers and buyers. Make sure you have a presence online and ensure you spend the time to be successful. It requires time and energy, but don’t you have that to give to your business? People want to talk to other people they know will respond to them. Have you ever sent a question in a Tweet to someone and they never responded? I know it has happened to me. Just posting your items up and leaving it at that doesn’t set you apart from any other person out there. Just ask yourself: What is your value? What value do you bring to your followers? Why should people follow and buy from you? Are you a follower or a leader?
