Simple Gifts, intangible holidays

Simple Gifts are the intangible ones.

What are your favorite things about Thanksgiving and Christmas? This is an embroidered tablecloth that my mother made based on drawings that the family made with a ball point pen.

tablecloth2.jpg " width="216" /

A great tradition my mother brought to the table was to have all the dinner participants at the holiday table to draw a picture with an ink pen and she embroidered the designs.  It's very beautiful when it is all put together.  She made two, one for me and one for my sister and has designs made by all the children.  It's a great heirloom.

Another favorite thing is that we have the English Poppers or Crackers.  My mother institued most of the family Thanksgiving and Christmas tradtions and...  Read More

Black Friday- Occupy Wall Street - Thanksgiving 2011

So, how do you feel about Black Friday in this year of 2011?

It's not really Black Friday anymore, but it's infiltrated Thanksgiving Day and a Thursday.  I've never been a Black Friday shopper anyways, but now Thursday?

Fundamentally, there is something ill-conceived and improper about this retail thinking.
I'm an online merchant, but my opinion on stores opening on Thursday for Thanksgiving sales is declared immoral.  I know I won't be popular for this thinking, but there are times when one must stand up for an ethical principle.

I know, to use the term immoral may create more controversy, but the current situation of shopping on Thanksgiving is insanity.  Think about it.  If the general public really needs to get out and shop on Thanksgiving to get...  Read More

My Favorite Things Andy Williams

One of my favorite things is the song My Favorite Things!  Andy Williams or Julie Andrews.  I love the renditions of both.  The classic Christmas Album in just, well, one of my favorite things.

But so, is Julie Andrews in The Sound of Music with the children finally happy and smiling, previously afraid of the thunderstorm,  hopping on the bed and singing and then again (shown here) when Julie Andrews returns, the children are so happy!

Well, we have plenty of raindrops here tonight in the Northeast, but I am happy that one of my favorite things besides this song is I have a car again!  Now, I can do things for you, for me, the family, the holidays, and another upcoming wedding next week!  Hallelujah!
Oh, and addoway is of course one of my favorite things.  Check it out for yourself on addoway.

Ciao from Royal Presence on addoway!

Planes, Trains and Automobiles - How do you Shop?

Thought I was all set for the season as a merchant, with supplies for shipments, tape, boxes bubble wrap and all.

What was not anticipated was for the car to break down, no pun intended.  To the tune of almost 2K, will need new brakes and all.  It was very scary driving to work today and barely being able to stop.  Ahhh!  For someone who shops at part of the occupation, the weekend is prime time to gather and collect special orders.  So, I figured I can do some walking, I could take a train, a taxi, and/or I could order online.  This got me to thinking?  How does everyone else shop without
transportation of some sort?

Have you found things you need online at addoway?  I bet you might just find some of those...  Read More

Top Chef addoway

It just sounded good.  This is really about a dream and a stove.

My grandmother had this old cast iron stove in which she cooked all the family dinners.
With the help of her daughters, my Mom and aunts, Thanksgiving was a feast to remember.
We had dinner and also went back in the evening and more people came in to enjoy the great food and company with relatives and friends.  My grandfather also made his candy, like home-made caramels on top of that stove, popcorn in a mesh pan tasted so good!   I remember it had a little hook that  you would take out a circular panel and that was how the heat was adjusted.

Lots of great memories with that stove!

When my grandmother died, I inherited the stove, since I wanted it so badly.  I had a dream of actually using it one day.

Well,...  Read More

Separating the wheat from the chaff on addoway

Separating the wheat from the chaff!

I have a clever boss in the day job.

He wanted a decision making tool for separating the wheat from the chaff, so I made some graphics for him to organize the myriad of information that crosses his mind and desk.  It was a big hit with the colleagues.  Although, not my idea, it is gaining its own reputation in our workplace.
I do a lot of research in this job.  One of  my colleagues came to me with a request and wasn’t sure if it was ‘wheat’ or ‘chaff’.  I explained it was up to him to make that determination.  Makes sense to me,  made sense to the President.  Now, everyone has to figure out their worth priorities and what is action worthy (wheat).

Here's my  In/Out Box for Addoway:
