How to Make May Baskets with Crepe Paper

This will only appeal to the crafters, but I was making some the other day.  Yes, less than a month after Christmas I was thinking about May Baskets.

All you need are styrofoam cups, pipe cleaners, crepe paper and white glue.

I used to make these with my Mom and was trying to remember the designs we made.  It didn't take but a few minutes to remember a few of those designs.
There's a Youtube video if it helps to understand the tutorial. Or you can view the How-to directions here:  Besides making May Baskets, you can make these for any party to hold candies and homemade goodies.

DIY collage Renaissance-Baroque

Many of you may know, I like to work with my hands.  When making collages, I often work with magazine pictures because it is easy to work with and forgiving when applying glue.  This one was done with reproduction prints and bit different medium with which to work.  Now that the weather has little humidity, I will be starting once again to work with

this type of art real soon.

The collage is a black and white mix of Renaissance-Baroque Architecture.  I chose pictures of Rome, because this was for a gift of one who studied architecture in Rome.  I was pleased with the result and so enjoyed making this piece.

Wrapping presents

A lot of people get some angst when wrapping presents.  No need for worries, just mix it up a bit. You can think about wrapping your presents all year long.  For instance, last year I was in Italy and picked up some beautiful wrapping paper.  Italy has wonderful papers.  I wrapped up some Christmas presents and that paper had some more meaning than perhaps the present.  Thankfully, the paper arrived home from that trip relatively unharmed.

The point being, is wherever you are, think of those gifts that you might be giving throughout the year.  You can find gift wrap wherever you travel and it just might make a nice memento on its own.

For instance, you can take untraditional colors and mix and mix.  Here is a pink polka dot paper with a traditional black and white check ribbon.  Add a bit of red roses and...  Read More

Making Wreaths for anytime and Christmas gifts

Some of you may know about the herbal vinegars I've been making and the jams and jellies.
I got my packaging down for Cranberry Jam and then the packaging for the Italian herbs.    I decided to go with simple labels and outer wrappings.  While I'm waiting for the bottles to arrive, which should be next Monday, I decided

to make some wreaths to hang on the door anytime, give for gifts and, also for Christmas.

I wanted to go with the natural theme, so for the first one used some real seashells.
Also, I love the beach, gardening and crafts, so this is a natural extension of my passions.

The next ones I am making are from beach grass that is in my garden.  It was getting overgrown and it's too hot to divide and transplant, so I made some cuttings and it is drying.
Here are some of the ones upcoming in...  Read More

Novel ideas for leftover fabric scraps

Every now and then I like to do some crafts.  The other day, I got into making button covers.
Since, the workplace is now going with badges, I decided to make mine a little more personal.
I put some ideas up on pinterest

For myself, I started with the Red Sox one. These are actually fabric covered buttons.

Then, made a lanyard one with a green flower.

Didn't really make one for addoway, but it would be cool.
(Fred, I want 1st dibs if you let us start selling promotional items)
Then, some novelty ones like John Deere, Hello Kitty, Pink Flamingo.

And of course Boston Sports Teams.
