2012 -- Birth of a New Tradition
As the holidays approach, the giant Asian factories are kicking into high
gear to provide North Americans with monstrous piles of cheaply produced goods -- merchandise that has been produced at the expense of North American labor.
This year can be different. This year North Americans can give the gift of genuine concern for others. There is no excuse that, at gift...  Read More

D-Day June 6, 1944 ~Remember And Give Thanks

D-Day is June 6, 1944 ~The infamous day the United States of America sent it's troops ~mostly very young men, to storm five beaches in France ~Normandy.  Omaha Beach, Utah Beach, Gold Beach, Juno Beach, and Sword Beach.  There were also invasions from the air and sea but the most harrowing and death defying were those young men that took small boats and jumped into the water and waded onto the beaches... through mostly a flurry of German gunfire.  Many did not make it.  Heartwrenching~

I found this on facebook this morning...I had known a few of these amazing Coke facts and cleaning tricks but not all ~Enjoy Coca~Cola Cleaning Today! :)

COKE
#1. In many states the highway patrol carries two gallons of Coke in the trunk to remove blood from the highway after a car accident.
#2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of Coke and it will be gone in two days.
#3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl and let the 'real thing' sit for one hour, then flush clean. The acids in Coke removes stains from vitreous china.

Colton Facciotti, my little moto-x champ all Grown Up & Winning!

Colton Facciotti, Canadian Moto-X Champ!  I've known this young man since he was 6yrs old and racing with my son in the pee wee 50cc class down here in the States.  We joined up with his parents and took our kids on the moto-x circuit which meant long drives, long days, lots of stress and fun campouts at great moto-x tracks.  More to come on my moto-x racing mom history :)  See below how far Colt has come!

One Woman's Trash Is Another Woman's Treasure

Women are great Pickers, Too!

One woman's trash is another woman's treasure has played itself out in my life ever since I can remember...when I was only 3 years old my best buddy was Donald Maskel who lived across the alley and he had thee coolest old steel pedal car that was red and rusty and fit me just right (well, I was growing into it).  I have to admit, it was the first thing I can remember wanting soooo badly that I dreamed about it.  His mom was the sweetest lady from Puerto Rico and she laughed at me, little "Pamayyyyyla" always wanting to use Donald's old rusty car.  Well, she had told Mr Maskel that it was to be sent to the dump because it was just rusty and old (oh my...I bet it was a 1955 model or so that would be worth a pretty penny, now) and somehow, my mom made a deal with her to buy it for my 4th birthday :-)....  Read More

The Joys Of Being Self Employed

Were we directed from Washington when to sow, and when to reap, we should soon want bread. - Thomas Jefferson, Autobiography, 1821

The Joys of being self employed are numerous as well as the responsibilities.  I grew up with a father who left the 9-5 grind of being an industrial engineer working for the government and Nalleys Fine Foods to opening up numerous sailboat/power boat stores and a full service marina on the water in Tacoma, WA.  My mom went from being home with me watching As The World Turns to being just a phone call away working at Windjammer Marine...I became a "latchkey kid" as well as an 8 year old cashier, duster, official fisherwoman of the family and other things that would have made today's child labor law enforcers cringe :-).

I Loved my parents having their own businesses!  I didn't mind all the eternally long hours...  Read More

I Love To Sell Things People Really Need At Low Prices!

After years of participating in many types of business ventures, I have amassed 1000 and 1 needed items or more!  If you had a 40'X60' garage like I do, you'd have that much or more, too.  Combine all the ventures with my great love of auctions and estate sales, and the refusal to throw away perfectly good useable things and I have an eclectic mass of everything under the sun but thank goodness I do because I love to sell things that people need and want.  From model T parts to vintage art pottery and dinnerware to body work tools to barber scissors, antiquarian books and so much more.  My items do not fly off the shelves but they do all find a new owner that needs them, day after day.  I can't afford to give things away, but I am able to enjoy giving great deals to people all over the world.

Some of the items I've...  Read More

What to do with my Frogs and their babies?

Once again, I have a swimming pool dilemna...I went to start pumping the last 3' of water out of the deep end of the broken swimming pool to get it ready to fill in.  I told the 3 froggies that were sunning themselves on the floating scraps of foam that were formerly on the walls of the pool that they were going to have to move to a new home but as I got ready to plug in the pump, I saw many fat little tadpoles popping up to the surface for a gulp of air....they are Frog Babies!

I hadn't seen them last week...but had noticed that my 6" bullfrogs seemed to be underwater more often...now I know what they were doing...having babies!  What to do with my froggie friends?  I had thought of perhaps catching the frogs with the swimming pool net and somehow transporting them to the lake down the block but what do I do with the tadpoles? ...  Read More

I'm Finally Filling In The Swimming Pool-Staying Connected

After enjoying having a wonderful backyard inground swimming pool for 20 years, I'm finally filling it in.  The pool was my special treat we built in our backyard when we moved into this home and I loved it as did my kids.  But, alas, after a mystery leak and the loss of my longtime "pool guy" I decided it was just too much trouble and cost so...I let the frogs move in and now it's time to fill it in.

Who to hire to do this big project was the question.  You don't just go to the internet and find a "Pool Filler Inner" but after many years of having huge garage sales that drew many men for all the "guy things" I always had for sale, I had made a friend who does excavation whose phone number I'd jotted down and put in my special drawer.  Just like online, at garage sales I spend a lot of time talking about my items...  Read More
