First Look at the Crystal Cathedral's Massive Catholic Makeover - la.curbed.com

Editor's Note: Dear friends of ours married many years ago at the Crystal Cahterdral and it was a Fairy Tale event -- like a Royal Wedding! Unforgettable! So we are intrigued by this make-over to see if the grandeuer and magic of architecture and light will still be there. Blocking out the light in the ceiling may diminsh that aura. How do you like to pray, communicate with your Maker - In a darker, cloistred church, synagogue or facility, or one with light streaming in and covering the congregants?

What's Not Trying to Kill California Sea Otters? - Takepart.com

By John R. Platt | Takepart.com

It's hard to imagine that an animal as wonderful as the California sea otter almost disappeared from the planet.

Once upon a time, tens of thousands of sea otters floated and swam off California's coast. But the fur trade in the 18th and 19th centuries took care of that, nearly wiping out the subspecies, and many people believed that it had gone extinct. But all of that changed in 1938 when the last raft—or group—of around 50 sea otters were found alive and well near the Bixby Canyon Bridge in Big Sur.

Hasbro freezes out Mattel with new Disney deal - AP

Associated PressBy MICHELLE CHAPMAN

Princess Anna and Princess Elsa Royal Princesses 2-Pack by Mattel

The toy wars just got a bit colder thanks to Disney's "Frozen," with Hasbro wrestling the rights for dolls from the hit movie away from its rival Mattel.

Hasbro Inc. announced Wednesday that its new deal with Disney Consumer Products will give it global rights — with the exception of Japan — to develop dolls based on "Frozen."

The Pawtucket, Rhode Island-based toy company will also make dolls based on Disney Princess stories and characters including Cinderella, Beauty and The Beast and The Little Mermaid.

Disney Consumer Products spokeswoman Joss Hastings said in an interview that the rights for the "Frozen" dolls will shift from Mattel to Hasbro in the spring of 2016.

Mexico sees tentative sign of hope as Monarch butterflies show up early - AP/US News

By MARK STEVENSON, Associated Press

FILE - In this Feb. 26, 2009 file photo, monarch butterflies gather on top of flowers at the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve, near the town of Chincua, Mexico. The head of Mexico’s nature reserves, Luis Fueyo, said Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014, the first butterflies have been seen entering Mexico earlier than usual this year. He said it is too early to say whether butterfly numbers will rebound this year from a series of sharp drops, but “this premature presence could be the prelude to an increase in the migration.” (AP Photo/Marco Ugarte, File)

Experts in Mexico said Tuesday there is a tentative sign of hope for the mass migration of monarch butterflies, whose numbers dropped to their lowest level ever last year.

An Engineer Is Attempting To End Plastic Bottle Pollution Using Spherification, The Solution Will Amaze You ~ The Inquisitr

The world is facing an acute problem of plastic pollution, and the biggest contributor to the growing menace is plastic bottles used to pack and sell packaged drinking water. Design student Rodrigo García González, who has already made a name for himself by inventing a smart suitcase that follows its owner, has done it again with a water container that doesn’t pose a threat to the environment once its contents are consumed.

Rodrigo has come up with a simple technique; make the container edible. He has designed or rather improved upon a technique to encase liquid in a membrane that can be consumed once the water is drunk. In case you are paranoid about eating containers, the membrane is completely biodegradable and can be simply discarded into the wild and it will dissolve a whole lot faster than the plastic bottle. ...more

Breast Cancer Occurs Most Often in These 5 States - The Motley Fool

By Sean Williams

Source: Flickr user Paul Falardeau.

With the exception of certain types of skin cancers, breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women. Though the disease is by no means relegated just to women -- more than 2,000 cases were diagnosed in men in 2011 -- women do account for about 99% of all breast cancer diagnoses (220,097 in 2011) according to statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It's also the second-leading cancer-based cause of death for women behind only lung cancer.

In addition to being among the most-diagnosed cancer types, it's also quite expensive to treat. Based on a study published in Dec. 2012 in the American Journal of Managed Care, the direct costs of treating breast cancer totaled $16.5 billion in 2010. This amounts to about 13%...  Read More

Lamborghini’s New Concept Might be Its Most Important Car Yet - BoldRide

Boldride

According to Greek mythology, the name Asterion means half man, half bull. But according toAutoblog.nl, Asterion might also refer to the new Lamborghini that’s debuting in Paris. And if produced, it’s going to have a big impact in the lineup.

Lamborghini — having sent out a teaser the other day of its new concept — kept all details on the car pretty well under wraps. But if we’re to believe the rumors, this might be the first hybrid vehicle from Lamborghini, following in the footsteps of Ferrari, Porsche and McLaren. That’s right, a hybrid Lamborghini.

Other rumors suggest it could even be a four-seater, an updated SUV, or a hypercar in the realm of the Bugatti Veyron (although, we doubt that last one).
