Scientists Crack a Mystery Surrounding Endangered Sea Turtles

Takepart.com

Hours after being hatched, baby sea turtles make their way to the ocean, and that’s the last people see of them until they return years later.

Scientists have long puzzled over where endangered turtles disappear to during these “lost years.” Now they finally have an answer: The young turtles swim hundreds of miles from their birthplace, far from the coastal waters biologists expected them to roam, according to a new study published in the journal Current Biology.

Marine biologists from the University of Central Florida and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said the discovery would help scientists predict what kind of risks sea turtles encounter during their travels as well as how to better protect them. ...more

Mommy, Read Me A Story

While we do not have any more of this cute Victorian Doll Duo left, their popularity reminds us of how precious the moments are between a child and a parent with books in hand. Nothing is more magical than a Story's being told by a mom (dad, sibling, aunt, uncle or loved one) to a wide-eyed precious child.

When my sister's family adopted a little one, he could not get enough books read to him. They would put one down and he would pull out another. Such is the thirst of knowledge and bonding that innately comes from books and sharing them together.

Addoway is a Treasure Trove of Delightful Children's Books, each of which will be a perfect addition to a Family's Library Collection, helping to create special memories of Childhood Story Time! Just take a peek at these stories below to whet your appetite and know that there are so many more on Addoway or at...  Read More

The Beautiful Yellow Cardinals!

We cannot find them online but they are so prolific and delightful here! Swarms of choreographed flocks gently fill the air with glorious color and the most beautiful songs! And walking or driving down the street, you can see hundreds upon hundreds of them gracefully flying in magically undulating waves of sunshine from trees to trees to streams to lakes.

This is the closest image we can find, but our birds are all gorgeous lemony yellow, not grayish beige with a hint of yellow or green.

We think that they are Pyrrhuloxia, as the young Piedmont High student on David Letterman's show last night did the bird call for this treasure and that song follows us on walks and fills our back yard with the sweetest sounds. It is shown at the 1:43 mark...  Read More

What to get Mom for Mother's Day - May 10

Oh dear, didn't we just have Easter, Passover, St. Patrick's Day, Presidents' Day and Valentine's? Where does the time go? For those (like us) in a time warp, Mother's Day is less than a monh away! Sunday, May 10th...so there is time to plan well and get your mother or beloved one something just as special/unique as she is! Hint: skip the silly mugs or tee shirts!

It's OK, she made better grades than most of them, but died of embarrasment that night!

Quickly glancing...  Read More
