Random Thoughts and Quotes on Travel

There are so many adventures that you missed because you’re waiting to think of a plan. To find them, look for any interesting choice and remember that you are always making up the future as you go. Randall Munroe

To move. To breathe. To fly. To float. To gain, all the while you give. To roam the roads of lands remote. To travel is to live. Hans Christian Anderson

Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails.  Explore. Dream.  Discover. Mark Twain

Let's Travel!

Quotes that my sister, Bootsie, loves on Travel and images from her Pinterest Board on Architecture & Design:

Travel is the only thing you buy, that makes you richer.

I haven’t been everywhere, but it’s on my list.  Susan Sontag

I’m in love with cities I’ve never been to and people I’ve never met.
The world is yours.

Never get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life.

I want to travel the world.

The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.  St. Augustine
See the world.

Every 100’ the world changes.  Roberto Bolano

Sometimes you just need a break in a beautiful place.  Alone… to figure out everything.

Travel as much as you can, as far as you can, as long as you can.  Life’s not meant to be lived in one place.

South Asia’s new adrenaline capital (in Sri Lanka) - BBC News

By Mike MacEacheran

It was 6 am and there was not another person in sight. The first rays of dawn split the thin vapour of clouds and I could see all of Sri Lanka light up before my eyes.

The pink sunrise illuminated the beaches and jungles to the south, grew north to the towns of Hatton and Kandy in the distance, then rested on the ghostly shaped peak on which I stood. I was at the top of Sri Pada, a 2,243m-high conical peak, regarded as the holiest mountain on this tear-shaped island. It was the perfect place to begin a thrill-seeking Ceylonese adventure.

t had been a tough climb. I had started in complete darkness three hours earlier in the one-street village of Nallathanni. Only a few days before, I had never heard of the place, but that was where the train conductor advised me to spend...  Read More

Restrictions to expire at Love Field, sending Southwest soaring - LA Times

By Hugo Martin

With the coming expiration of a federal law that restricts airline traffic out of Texas' Love Field, Southwest Airlines has announced a slew of nonstop flights from that airport, including a flight to Los Angeles International Airport.

The so-called Wright Amendment, championed by U.S. House Speaker Jim Wright (D-Fort Worth) in 1979, was intended to restrict air traffic out of Love Field and direct more growth toward the then-fledgling  Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.

The amendment, which expires Oct. 13, has had a big impact on Southwest Airlines, the nation's largest domestic carrier, headquartered at Love Field.

Airline experts say the end of the restrictions may increase competition in the industry and help keep air fares low.

Back on the top cloud - Dallas Morning News

By Terry Maxon/Airline Writer and Troy Oxford/Staff Artist

Before last Monday’s merger with US Airways, American Airlines ranked No. 3 among air carriers in size by revenue, fleet and passengers. But the marriage of US Airways and American’s parent AMR puts the new company, American Airlines Group, back on top. That ends a five-year fall after the Delta Air Lines-Northwest Airlines and United Airlines-Continental Airlines mergers. Biggest doesn’t mean best, of course. But it’s better to be the lead dog on the sled team. ...more

What’s new on the San Antonio River Walk - Dallas Morning News

By SOPHIA DEMBLING

Special Contributor

SAN ANTONIO — The traffic of Interstate 10 rumbling overhead doesn’t seem to trouble the turtle sunning on a rock off the river’s shore. Or the snowy egret posing by the pylons. Or the great blue heron, hunkered in the grasses along the shore, eyeing me suspiciously as I eye him. (At least it looks suspicious. Hard to tell with herons.)

I’m on San Antonio’s famed River Walk, a couple of miles and a far cry from the bustling downtown section. This is the new Mission Reach section on the south side of town: a paved hike-bike path that connects downtown to the city’s famous historic missions.

Mission Reach, which officially opened in October, is much more than the path; it’s also an ambitious and impressive ecosystem restoration project.

It's Fall, Let's Travel! Start at Home...here are some ideas.

Wow! November is almost here and the cool, invigorating air beckons us to go..somewhere, anywhere! The royal flush of Autumn Colors is resplendent, even Glorious! Long ago a friend and his family would pull out a map with places near them, shut the picker's eyes and he or she would blindly point to a place on the map. That was their Destination de Jour!  They would pack up the kids and picnic supplies and head out for their latest adventure!

Our favorite place was Apple Hill in CA and the Adirondacks in NY! The colors were awesome, the roads curvy and narrow, the fruit stands along the road all calling our names! Apples, Pumpkins and Pumpkin Patches, Hayrides out to pick our own Jack-O-Lanterns, and the guide/driver pointing out the beautiful Evergreens nearby for us to come pick out our own Christmas Tree later. Wow!...  Read More
