Tis The Season for Giving

Sharing blessings, playing gifts forward is probably the most fun of the Christmas, Hanukkah Holiday Season. My Jewsish sister and her Synagogue all spend Christmas Day (and Thanksgiving) serving food to the Homeless or at Ronald McDonald's House to the visiting patients and their families. We, too, have been trying to help as we can, and hope that perhaps if you have not yet had a chance to consider where/to whom to donate this year, that you might consider one of these worthy groups:

A precious victim from the San Bernardino Shootings ~ her sister is a friend of my Niece ~ May the family find some peace as they lay her to rest:

Oh oh, my sister is Sexist - but in a good way.. #Kiva

While we have been a bit upset with Kiva after seeing posts on the internet stating that their lenders who loan the money to the requestors, charge up to 100% interest to the borrowers. Kiva has told/assured us that is not the case, and we are hoping that is the truth.

We did take advantage of their special today whereby your donation is matched, so goes twice as far. Then we were pleasantly surprised to see their new analytics that show how our small investments keep on giving.

(Now fully funded thanks to matching donations today: ...  Read More

Flooding and Other Survivors Need Your Help

Hello, Everyone,

We know that so many areas have been hit by terrible events of nature - Earthquakes, Avalanches, Extreme Heat Waves, Tornadoes and in Texas severe Flooding. Many of our friends lived in Wimberley, where over 300 homes washed away and many perished. One friend who lives there told us that after the river overran its banks, the American Red Cross was on the ground within hours.  Two local grocery stores were as well, and one had not yet opened their doors, but still had 3,000 packets of food there quickly for the survivors.

We and a number of our friends donated. In that vein, we appreciate the great work done so quickly by the Red Cross and are sharing their note as still more aid is needed. If you can, please help. You may ask that your donation go to help any area where another disaster has struck or where you...  Read More

Kiva Zip Celebrates 50,000 Micro Loans - People Helping People...or Scam to Make Donors Feel Good?

We were so excited to receive this email today from KivaZip, which gives microloans to budding small business men and women in the US and Kenya...as we have donated to them. In trying to find an image to put with the note, we also found some disappointing reviews about Kiva and Kiva Zip...the most egregious being that recipients are charged 100% interest on their loans! Hopefully this dated post from 2014 has given Kiva and Kiva Zip time to clean up their acts, but this article is gut-wrenching:

The joys of pretending to help the poor: The Kiva Story

Here is an image we found touting Success Stories from 2013:
