Potter fans enter Diagon Alley at the opening (Paul Brinkmann, Orlando Sentinel / July 8, 2014)
Here's my take on the Diagon Alley opening this morning: It's very cool, but my enthusiasm might have waned if I had to wait five hours in line and spend $100 on a day pass.
I went as a member of the media, and I'm grateful that Universal Orlando gave me VIP access. The ride, Escape from Gringotts, was super enjoyable. I hope its not sacrilege to say I view it like an updated Harry Potter version of Disney's Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.
I am a fan of the Potter books and movies. My favorite moment of the day, besides the ride, was when theme music from the movies played outside as crowds were cheering before the opening. "Dumbledore's Army" was one of my favorites from the film and Universal played it just after I interviewed Veronica Junco, 15, of Miami. She came with two friends. She was dressed up as a member of House Ravenclaw from the movies. ...more
