Tiger Woods makes it official: He’ll tee it up in next week’s penultimate FedExCup playoff game.
Tiger Woods, No. 2 in points after a stunning T65 finish Monday at theDeutsche Bank Championship, announced on Wednesday that he will play in next week’s BMW Championship, the third of four FedExCup playoff events on the PGA Tour schedule, as well as next month in the Presidents Cup.
Woods, who entered the playoffs at the top of the standings thanks to his five-win 2013 season, never got it going at TPC Boston over Labor Day weekend. Now just 14 points behind TPC Boston winner Henrik Stenson in the race for the $10 million FEC payoff, Woods was named tour Player of the Month for August after his T2 finish at The Barclays and victory at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.
The top 70 players advanced from the DBC to the no-cut BMW at Conway Farms Golf Club near Chicago, which offers 2,500 points to the winner. Still first in the world rankings, Woods’ aim in the season-ending series has been to get to the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Course in Atlanta as one of the top five players of the 30 who qualify for the finale. ...more
