OK, it's official, Fat Tuesday, Mardi Gras and Carnival, as well as Purim are history! (Click on the image above for more photos of celebrating from around the world!) (Click here for more on Purim and the Feast of Esther.)
Lent (and other High Holy periods of repentance, restraint/abstinence, reflection on self-atonement/improvement) have begun! It's a time not to just give up bad habits, but to do things that are for the greater good, and that perhaps we have been putting off. It's like a second chance to get those New Year's Resolutions habituated! Easter (April 20) and Passover (April 14-22) will be here soon enough. For many Catholics and other Christians, today is Ash Wednesday, the official beginning of Lent and a day for praying, fasting and abstinence.
So we are going to do more than give up Snickers candy bars (as we rarely have any anyway;o) In the next 46 days, we are going to try to do something out of our comfort range, usual routines, to help or do for others every day.
One great idea that we saw awhile back was to write a real actual thank you note to someone who has made a difference in our lives, one a day, every day for a year. While we began this at Christmas, adding a personal thank you to every Christmas card, did a few virtual e-thanks yous on Bluemountain and other such sites, we think our efforts have not been consistent and certainly not daily.
Another is to do something over and above/or at least out of the ordinary special for a loved one, a charity, a cause, a stranger. Today we are getting some fun things from Bootsie's
ready for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society
collection tomorrow. Plus most of our proceeds on Neill's Deals
go to an array of worthy causes & groups
But we have been remiss in properly thanking YOU and everyone at #Addoway
for making Addoway so very unique, friendly and trustworthy for users and visitors alike! So here you go with our deepest gratitude and appreciation!!!! (carolyn, Bootsie & Neill)
