Giving Tuesday - or any day! #ProjectHawaii #SandyHook #WorthyCauses

Whew! The rush of Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday and other such Black Holes of Intensity are in our rear view mirrors...for awhile at least. So today, let us pause and give back to those less fortunate than ourselves.

Here are some of our faves, as the donations truly go to the people, not the staff and marketing budgets: Worthy Causes

One group that we have worked with for many years and greatly admire is Project Hawaii/ChristmasWish. 100% of their donations go to help the homeless and abused keiki (children) and their families (mostly mothers) of Hawaii.

Children used to live in a camp on a beach, and Project Hawaii could organize weekly events and feeding programs. But the mayor closed that camp down and evicted everyone. Now they live in abandoned cars, under bridges, in make-shift tarps, tents and some young boys on their own in the sewers. The children are so precious and appreciative of everything. If you would like to learn more about this group, please visit their web site:

We use funds from our sales of toys sold on NeillsDeals to help, and donate under our main site Bootsie's Boutique or my sister, Carolyn Newsom.

Here is another Giving Tuesday note that we got from the parents of the precious children killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT, where our cousins are EMS volunteers. That town is amazing in how they have handled the multiple tragedies, come together as a community, and worked tirelessly to try to ensure that this never happens again. While you may/may not agree with their stand on gun control, you will be able to see/feel the pain, passion and determination in these awe-inspiring people:

After a tragedy like ours, and with the frightening regularity of gun violence since, it'd be easy to lose faith or think nothing can be done.

But if I've learned one thing during this difficult year, it's that at their centers, people are kind. They're unselfish. They're generous with their time, their love and their financial support.

It's those characteristics – it's you – that will bring about real, lasting change.

Giving Tuesday is a special opportunity – one day to pause the holiday season's rushing and shopping – to show the strength of our commitment to building a safer, healthier world for all children.

Every donation up to $200,000 that we receive today will be matched dollar-for-dollar by a generous donor. So please don't wait – make your tax-deductible gift now, before midnight, and have it go twice as far.

Another thing we've all learned during the last year is that change is hard. Still, for the 20 children and 6 educators torn from us so senselessly, we are more committed than ever to making real change happen. It's just a question of having the resources we need to address the causes of gun violence and empower people to make changes in their communities.

Your Giving Tuesday contribution will help Sandy Hook Promise roll out proven tools and programs that focus on mental wellness, community and gun safety.

And today, your generosity will join with that of thousands of others all across the country, united by our love for our children and our determination to prevent tragedies like ours from happening again.

So I'm asking you to make your tax-deductible donation to Sandy Hook Promise today, on Giving Tuesday. With our generous donor waiting to match your gift, there's no better time.

Thank you so much for using this Giving Tuesday to help prevent gun violence and promise a safer future for all children.
