Want to start buying some vintage pieces but on a tight budget? No worries, this article will give you 3 quick and easy tips for starting without breaking your bank!
First, decide what area or type of collecting you are interested in buying. This is hard for me, because I love alot of different areas, but my biggest love is vintage dress forms. So decide which area you really love most.
Research online using search engines like google.com. For example, I researched vintage dress forms from Paris in google to get an idea of how to identify a dress form as being vintage and the price ranges dress forms can cost
Visit great online sites like: Etsy.com, Ebay.com and Craigslist.com to get an idea of the market and how many items are being sold online. Check out the asking price and selling price, the items are going for.
An added tip is to network and just go out on a limb and contact individuals who are collecting or related to the item you want to start collecting. For instance, I contacted a couple of women who write blogs about antique french dress forms and they helped me alot in locating, pricing and finding the dress forms I am interested in.
Many local antique stores offer layaway plans if your items are higher priced. The antique french dress forms I collect can cost over $500 easily. Check online sellers if they have an onsite store or some eCommerce sellers offer layaway too! Just beware that you check their background and verify they are a Seller with a positive feedback, meaning other customers have purchased items from them and had positive transactions.
