What has always fascinated me and probably always will is how extremely difficult "simple" is to actually use as an operating principle. Simple is not simple - it is very hard to do. When a group project is extremely complicated with about a million different tasks to complete, especially when time is a constraint, I can say with 100% absolute certainty that stuff will go wrong and there will be days where all heck breaks loose in completely unpredicatable ways. Taking the principle of KISS and applying it aggressively to grand projects is super tough.
I have worked on some projects in the past that had an enormous amount of detail-work involved. Everytime I see one of these joint efforts result in a superb final product I am amazed at how well everything fit together.
