The Joy of Selling and the Inevitable Change That Follows Each Year

Do you remember the first time you felt that addiction to sell something online?

How about making that first purchase from a wholesaler or maybe that incredible find at a yard sale in your neighborhood?

Maybe it was making your first sale and realizing the profit from just a little investment of your time? Or making that first purchase on a marketplace and then turning around and selling it again for a profit?

Oh the memories!!!

The reason I bring it up is because we usually have gotten into this industry because something grabbed us and that “something” is usually an addiction to “the find.” Telling your friends, “this is just too good to be true. Look what I found. I am going to sell this on eBay and make some money.” Just take a look at the image below and tell me the truth. Doesn't it remind you of those days when you first realized you could sell your stuff from the comfort of your couch?

Those memories are what we need to hold onto and remember as we try new things and make new adjustments to the constant change around us. Selling online is much different today than it was 10 years ago and will be even more different 10 years from now. What remains the same is the fact that everyone loves a good deal and you are the provider of those good deals.

New marketplaces take time to sprout up. And in “time” I am referring to many years. It takes time to build a name and deliver on a promise and continue to deliver on that promise years in time. There is always going to be that “new kid on the block” or the “next big thing” and there is nothing wrong with that, but one has to remember that those places will take just as long to really get their name out there. Look how long it took you to grow your business and figure it all out. You’re probably still trying to figure it all out and there is nothing wrong with that. Look at all of the many marketplaces that held so much promise that no longer exist anymore.

Remember this as you continue to sell each and every year: What you did last year is no guarantee you will do the same this year. You must adapt and evolve and do what the market and your customers dictate. You can't just run your own show with your own belief that they will just follow. Give them what they need instead of hoping they are going to want what you have.

The only guarantees in this business are that:

1.    Competition will continue to increase from sellers to buyers to marketplaces
2.    Price will always be a driving force in the buying decision
3.    Deals will always be popular
4.    Being patient and calm during change will lead to success
5.    If you put in the same effort this year as last, you will not perform as well.

No matter the challenges you are facing, just remember these 5 key facts about business and we are confident you will rise above anything that stands in your way. We have continued to follow them all the years through. Thank you. Let us know what you think or share your fondest memories below.

" when you first realized you could sell your stuff from the comfort of your couch
...Share your fondest memories? "

Oh yeah, those college couch days are some of my most fondest memories. Selling online from the "fingertip click & ship" method was fun to do.

One has to ENJOY selling online in order to gain results in the afterMATH.

I started selling bed sheet sets (years ago) and recently discovered that Addoway has a variety of sellers offering these products.

Oh, those good old college days...Now,,,, I know why I made A's = because they stand for A-ddoway...

Thanks for the memories! MONTY...newest ADDOWAY Bed sheets @>

Oh, boy. I certainly do remember my first online sale! It was on a BBS, The Hard Disk Cafe in Reno, NV.

And it was a Christmas stocking that I'd knit and sold at a local craft fair to a lady who was visiting from Arizona. Her friend contacted me thru HDC's chat room on the IRC system and my selling "online" began.

That was back in 1993, everything was black & white on Unix, Yahoo was black & white! We had a 14.4 modem! Sigh, I'm really dating myself. LOL

I hit the IRC chats & newsgroups a-running. Sales that very first year netted me $485.00!!! I was, and still am hooked.

Great post. I think patience is a key - along with good old-fashioned self-promotion. With all the competition out there, social media and blogging will help set you apart from the rest!

I remember, but it wasn't from the comfort of my couch :-)
As with anything, it is about effort, and perseverance.

Marge (mkdesigner) I believe I remember the IRC chats & newsgroups too. I agree with Donna that self-promotion is the key element. Montrose, your Addoway seller feedback is quite impressive. Your track record can't be beat. Something for me to learn from. Great blog this evening!

Can anyone help to assist with questions concerning the use of a credit card vs debit card for paid membership here?

There are so many of us infuriated with how an unknown small ranch site located in WA continues to change their pay to payment made rules for selling and paying their selling fees.

One ridiculous fool just confirmed that the reason it is making us require to submit a credit card is because they continue to

"have sellers who skip out on their fees"

And the most common day to day suggestion is "Contact Support" which is an ongoing practice with this site for over a year, if not longer.

I've never read anything here referring members to "contact Addoway support ALL THE TIME" and this must be something very good to make known.

For those that are not honest and do not pay their fees…This is totally understandable. For those who do pay on time, it seems rude to demand a cc after all this time, when agreements were prior made to accept pay pal.

This WA. ranch site has become more of a major headache to many of us that it would help if someone here on Addoway could step in to comment on HOW TO welcome many of us seeking to make a change for the BETTER.

Any shared advice on this inquiry would be much appreciated especially if sellers are located outside the United States.

Hi Delilah,
For seller fees, we do not automatically deduct from your account so you must make sure you pay your fees on time. We actually don't have the same problems as some sites right now and we hope this continues like that otherwise we might have to look at other options. For right now, you receive a notification when your fees are at at least $3 and then you have the month to pay. Hope this helps.

Good information here. How does Addoway permit buyers to purchase several different products from a single seller? Or multiple sellers at that?
