Study Indicates Higher Holiday Sales This Year

If you haven't heard already, Forrester Research  reported last week that online holiday sales are expected to grow 15% in 2011 to reach nearly $59.5 billion, compared to $51.7 billion last year. How incredible is that? Forrester even indicated that while 58% of online consumers said that they are more price sensitive this year than they were previous years, they are saying that 12% of the overall 15% growth will actually come from increased consumer spending.

So the good news for us is that even though they will be checking out prices more and more this year, shoppers will be spending much more than previous years. But honestly who doesn't check out prices before they buy? Everyone does this for the most part. Consumer confidence is actually up and people feel better about spending more, which means you need to be ready for them to hit your shop and check out your products and pricing right now. They are already doing it.

Are you prepared? Have you taken the extra time to reduce your prices if necessary? Have you created those coupon codes and authorized the acceptance of AddoBucks and Facebook discounts to give shoppers incentives to save more? How about offering Free Shipping on your items?

There are a lot of things to get done. November 28, 2011 is Cyber Monday, so there is not much time, but there is still time left. Cyber Monday is the biggest day of the year for online sales. Last year online spending on Cyber Monday surpassed $1 billion which was a 16 percent increase from 2009. Thanksgiving Day is another popular day for online spending. Online sales on Thanksgiving last year surpassed $400 million. Check out our 12 Helpful Tips to a Successful Holiday Selling Season blog post to make sure you are well prepared this year.

We are already seeing much more traffic right now than ever before. November is already set to be our highest month in terms of sales and traffic beating out October by quite a bit and each month we are growing. We are anticipating a huge influx of traffic and sales for the remainder of the year and we hope you are ready for it in each of your stores. Take the time to make sure you are well prepared. You don't want to be caught off guard when analytics show a huge spike in traffic to your listings and you weren't ready.
