ALS, more commonly known as Lou Gehrigs disease, is a progressive disease that affecs nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. The disease is not an extremely common one and approximately 5600 people in the U.S. are diagnosed with ALS each year with an estimated 30,000 Americans having the disease at any given time. There is no known cure for ALS and the average life span of a person with it is 3 years after diagnosis. Some may live as long as 10 years however this is rare. Due to medical intervention the life span of a person diagnosed with ALS has increased.

Life gives us ups and downs. Some of the downs are worse than others and I've found out first hand how hard it can be to rise to the challenge of climbing back up. Sometimes you just want to find the first hole to crawl in or the first rock to crawl under and say forget it, I give up! While I know many people think of big trucks as something that gets in their way on the highways and roads, as more of a nuisance when you are in a hurry, step back a minute and think about it. Those trucks are what delivers the majority of the goods and products you have in your household to the stores you purchase them from. If it weren't for those trucks you wouldn't be able to drive to the store to get the food on your table, the clothing on your back or even get in that car to drive to the store! As a child and also the "middle" child with 3 sisters and 1 brother, the song "Stuck in the Middle with You" has always been one of those songs that brings memories back from my childhood years and beyond. I was the girl you would would stereotype as the typical "Daddy's girl", following him everywhere he went when he was home. He was gone a lot because you see, my Dad was a truck driver. Any of you who have Dads whose jobs involved travel or even just working super long days may very well understand how when you are close to someone, you want to spend as much time with that person as possible. |
