Ah, Those Cataracts

Cataracts can be bothersome but they can also be wonderful. Why do I say that? Well, sometimes you don't even know when you have the cataracts, I didn't but the Optometrist said they were ready so in two separate visits to the hospital, I had the cataract surgery in 2006. To tell you the truth, I didn't even know that I could see better because the Optometrist still prescribed glasses for me and naturally the Optician was in his office. So, I continued to pay almost $400 everytime that he said that there was a change in my eyes. Imagine my surprise when the Opthalmologist informed me about 3 months ago that my vision was 20/20 and all I needed was reading glasses. It seems as though this happens to some of us when we have our cataract surgery. When I asked why the Optometrist kept prescribing glasses for me, I was told that an Optometrist was in business to sell glasses and an Opthalmologist was there to treat diseases of the eye.

My husband had a cataract removed on his right eye last year and for the first time ever, he could read some of the road signs, he had had 200 vision in that eye since he was a kid. Today he had cataract surgery in the left eye and according to the Opthalmologist he will still have to have glasses for distance, but close up he may not need them. Isn't that amazing?

In a way, God can be cruel sometimes. When we are young we have these great bodies, super memories and more, then when we get old, what isn't sagging is dragging, but darn it all, WE CAN SEE!! Ain't life grand?
